The duPont Manual High School girls’ lacrosse team took the KLA State Title with an upset win against KCD. The final score was Manual 10, KCD 7.

Manual entered the tournament as third seed, with regular season losses to both KCD and Mercy. However, the state tournament saw Manual avenge both those losses. After a decisive quarterfinal win over Assumption (21-4) Manual squared off against Mercy. The score was the same as their regular season meeting, but this time Manual came out on top 13 to 8.

The championship game was a rematch of last year’s teams, when KCD took the title 8-7 in driving rain. This year, under sunny skies, Manual exploded out of the blocks and built to a 9-1 halftime lead.

KCD regrouped at halftime and mounted a strong comeback with 6 second half goals to Manual’s one. But it was not enough and Manual won State 10 to 7.

The Crimsons came to the game with a special incentive. They wanted to win bring the state title back to Manual and to Coach Steve Auden, who is stepping down after 8 years as head coach. His final game gave Manual four state titles during his eight year tenure.

Individual stars for Manual included Moriah Facktor, the game MVP, who
dominated the midfield with 6 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers.

The defense fought hard for draw controls and ground balls and was anchored by a strong performance in goal by Hannah Sonnier.

Offense for Manual included:
Meg Maloney - 2G, 1A
Victoria Bickett - 2G
Maddie Boatwright - 2G
Lee Ann Hughes - 2G
Kasey Uhlenhuth - 2G, 3A
Becky Jones - 1A
KCD goals were scored by:
Casey Bariteau - 4G
Ellen Esterhay - 2G
Michelle Worthington - 1G
